Sunday, February 2nd, 2014: Interactions with Jesus Series "Matthew- Changed Life"

Jesus tells the parable of “Two Men who Prayed”:

Pharisee:                                           (Luke 18:9-14)

  • Confident in his own self-righteousness
  • Looked down on everyone else
  • Went to the Temple not to pray, but to announce how great he thought he was
  • Thanked God he was not like all the other sinners
  • Pridefully stated he fasted 2X /week and gave tithes

Tax Collector:

  • Went to the Temple to pray
  • Humbly stood at a distance, not looking up to heaven
  • Recognized his own sin and begged God for mercy
  • Went home justified before God!

“Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”  (Luke 18:14)

Watch the “Calling of Matthew” video clip from “The Bible”

1. Calling to take Action:  “Follow Me!”

Matthew heard the call of Christ, was convicted & took action:

“After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Matthew (Levi) sitting at his tax booth.  ‘Follow me,” Jesus said to him and Matthew (Levi) got up, left everything and followed Him.’”     (Luke 5:27-28)

  1. Get upimmediate response, took action
